The Summerhouse Tower is a very special holiday-home-for-two set within the rolling Shropshire countryside. A Grade II listed tower, this unique, romantic retreat enjoys excellent views to the east, and views of the Shropshire Hills to the south and the west.

The Summer House and Octagonal Tower, built circa 1607 by Sir Francis Newport, was originally used as a banqueting house for entertaining his dinner guests.

Whilst the main house was destroyed by a fire and was never rebuilt, The Summer House, now part of the Raby Estate, has stood all this time and is available for cosy stays throughout the year.

The age and nature of the property make it fabulously unique. However, there are low beams and uneven steps which make it unsuitable for people with reduced mobility, children or pets.

Access to the roof is not permitted for health and safety reasons.

Location

Eyton-on-Severn

The property is tucked away in the hamlet of Eyton-on-Severn, near the ancient Roman settlement at Wroxeter, and is surrounded by stunning countryside. Immediately to the east rises the Wrekin, a formidable hill said to be the result of a giant depositing a spade of earth he had intended to use to bury Telford. To the south lies the River Severn; and beyond the Shropshire Hills, the last English heights before the Welsh border.

All of the surrounding countryside can be readily explored from The Summer House. Guests can stroll amongst the fields and lanes directly from the front door via nearby public footpaths. Or explore further afield into Shropshire and the border counties. Attingham Park is only 4 miles away, and with a short twenty minute drive you can be in the black and white medieval market town of Shrewsbury.

Totally peaceful and relaxing. Our own little castle!

Excellent accommodation, very tastefully renovated. Great location between Shrewsbury and Ironbridge Gorge so plenty to see and do. Spectacular views, especially of the Wrekin. Lovely bedroom with the wood burner making it especially cosy.

Tower holiday in shropshire

A quirky old building superbly refurbished. Walk from the door to the River Severn, though path isn't obvious. No expense spared on the refitting. A vineyard and extensive Roman remains are a five minute drive away. Perfect spot for a quiet rural break or as a base to explore Shropshire.

Wonderful Retreat for Two

I booked this accommodation for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. The folly is wonderful and has everything there you could need for a short break for two. A very comfortable bed and well equipped mini kitchen. Wonderful surrounding country side and the Vineyard down the road is well worth a visit. We did the tour with lunch.
